Remember that you are rendering to a specific format for a specific reason. That is why it is best to record in wav (like you do at 24bit). This means that regardless of the bit rate you choose there will be a loss of data (quality) over something like wav files. I just did a quick test on a 3 minute song with three different bit rates. Anyway the bit rate will greatly effect the overall size of your mp3 file, and as I said it will also effect quality. When you render to MP3 you can choose the bit rate (google or wikipedia for a definition).
